blood type: B+
sexuality: Straight
appearance: Anna's on the taller side at 5'8" (no idea where that came from; her family's all short. Anna's as tall as her dad.) and fit, weighing in around 130 lbs. She's always been active, and it shows in her overall shape, sleek, toned muscles over slim curves. There's a little less up top than she'd consider ideal, but that's nothing a push-up bra can't fix. She keeps her hair long, despite the pain in the ass it is to care for it, naturally colored a dark chocolate that lightens to a rich deep brown the more time she spends in the sun. Her skin is a sort of toasted cream, the year-round tan that she works on staving off the sallow tone that runs in the family. Her eyes are a deep brown, tip-tilted with long, dark lashes. She's typically found without makeup - it would be pretty worthless most of the time, considering how much of her days she spends in the water. She cleans up well when she bothers to take the time (and yes, there are SOME functions for which she'll exert effort), but most of the time there's just no point. Not that she needs it for day-to-day functions - her skin is clear with a faint natural blush to her cheeks, making her chapstick or other assorted lip balm the only thing she wears regularly. She has an easy smile that lights up her whole face and long, graceful hands with nails she keeps neat and trimmed on the short side.

She's a sucker for color and loves to wear bright clothes and accessories (when she's not out on the water), and despite chlorine's destructive effect on nail polish, she usually likes to have her toes (and occasionally her fingernails) painted some wacky color. Her personal style is extremely casual - bathing suits nearly 100% of the time, covered by shorts and tank tops or the occasional peasant skirt. Dressing up is limited pretty much to going out with her friends, where she'll pull out the sparklies and get pretty, but even then most of their favorite places are dive bars or holes in the wall where jeans and flannel run rampant.

behavior: Anna is more or less the definition of 'chill.' Whether it comes from living live in the slower pace of the South or just some sort of genetic combination that makes her nigh on unflappable, no one knows, but there she is. Friends and family can count the number of times they've heard Anna angry or yelling on one hand with fingers left over. She's friendly and cheerful without being annoyingly perky, with a laid-back, almost lazy sort of feel to her. She's never met a stranger; she has the sort of knack for drawing people in and gaining their confidence within just a few minutes. It lends her a sort of credibility that helps balance out her whole 'go with the flow' vibe. And she does, really - Anna tends to sort of flow through life, taking successes and challenges in the same stride. She never lets anything slow her down for long - naturally a very optimistic and practical woman, if someone throws an obstacle in her path she'll get to work finding the easiest and most efficient way around it without complaint. She works hard and plays hard, enjoying the simple pleasures in life and the satisfaction that comes from a day well spent.

She's not a woman who's impressed by a lot of flash and sparkle; she surrounds herself with people who are as real and hardworking as she is. She evaluates people based on their personal merit, not on what sorts of toys and bling they own or who they know. She can't abide negativity or slothfulness, and prefers to avoid people who are like that. She's always doing something - if she doesn't have any of her own work to do, well, on a boat there's usually always some sort of job that needs done. She never seems to be in a hurry - even when she is rushing around, she manages to keep that sort of slow, lazy manner about her. Well, most of the time. She's almost excruciatingly slow to anger, but that doesn't mean she'll put up with nonsense - she doesn't let people get bullied or pushed around near her, and she doesn't stick around to listen to someone if they're spouting off or talking crap.

Despite the lazy air that some people might equate with mental slowness as well, Anna's whip-smart and her passions run deep, the ocean and creatures contained within being her greatest one. Remember how she's slow to get angry? Her two biggest exceptions to that rule are animal cruelty and human carelessness. She runs a tight ship, and people who don't listen to her safety rules or who fool around and put others at risk because of it will get the sharp side of her tongue in a heartbeat.
special skills: Certified scuba diver and instructor, can hold her breath for nearly four minutes, plays bass recreationally.
strengths: Unflappable: Anna is probably one of the best people to have in a crisis because she's capable of keeping herself completely calm. In an emergency situation, she's cool and collected, managing to keep other people moving productively and helping forestall panic. Like that time the hurricane cracked the shark tank at the Key West aquarium and released the sharks into the flooded city streets. She might fall apart later, but it won't be until everything's taken care of and she's gotten herself somewhere people won't see her freak.

Trustworthy: Anna seems to have a sense about her of complete trustworthiness - people often find themselves telling her things they wouldn't' normally tell someone they'd just met, or they ask for her help and know she'll do whatever she can. Mothers could walk up to Anna on the street, hand over their kids, and know they'd get them back in an hour perfectly healthy and happy. Combined with her calm practicality, it makes her a very natural leader.
weaknesses: Tactless: Anna never means to insult people, but it sometimes happens despite her best intentions because she's honest to the point of tactlessness and bluntness. Don't ever ask her opinion unless you're prepared to hear it, because she will tell you if your ass looks fat in that or if your new haircut is shit. Since she's rarely bothered by hearing things like that, it's hard for her to remember that other people might have a problem with it, too.

Adrift: Anna's laid-back approach to life can make it hard for her to form lasting attachments to people. Because she'd be perfectly okay living like a hermit with only a tank of dolphins to care for, she finds it hard to get worked up over friends moving away, being away from family, or even giving up her home and doing without all of her possessions for, say, a year of work on a cruise liner. She can go days at a time without speaking a single word if she doesn't see anyone, and she tends to live very much in her own head.

Hypoglycemia: Anna has a lower than normal level of blood glucose, the reason for which has never been discovered. She has to constantly be careful to keep her blood sugar within acceptable levels. If she goes too long without eating or exerts herself too hard without a snack to replenish the energy used, she begins to feel bad - hunger, then nausea, headache, dizziness, bad mood, shakiness, palpitations, even going so far as seizures or coma if it's not treated in time. Anna tries to always keep some kind of snack on her just in case - a bottle of juice, a granola bar, even a piece of bread and some sugar packets will work in a pinch.

personal history: Anna was born in 1982 to second-generation Korean-Americans in the small town of Woodbine, Georgia. Her grandparents had come to the country in the sixties from South Korea and settled in the small town by sheer luck; it's where the ride they were hitching on told them to get off. Stuck, they decided to make the best of it by settling down and taking whatever jobs the townspeople made available to them - which were often the most menial and comprised of whatever no one else would take. But they worked without complaint, Anna's grandmother supplementing their income by working as a seamstress. Her designs were surprisingly popular, her repairs neat and affordable, and they eventually became accepted by the community.

Anna's parents' marriage was arranged by her grandparents, Anna's father-to-be joining the family in the late 70s. Surprisingly, it turned into a love match and they were married in 1980, with Anna following two years later. Her parents, Sun-Hee and Chang-Su, opened Woodbine's first Korean restaurant. Though it never really caught on (largely due to the intestinal hot-pot that Anna's grandfather was fond of eating in full view of other patrons), they did enough business to keep their heads above water, though they never had much beyond necessities. With little to do in such a small town, Anna and her friends often had to entertain themselves with little more than their imaginations - and bridge jumping. Though poor in resources and population (barely 1000), Woodbine was rich in rivers and lakes, and was only about an hour and a half from the beach by bus. And where there were rivers, there were also bridges. And where there were both bridges and adventurous pre-teens with bathing suits and minus bus fare, there was bridge jumping. They'd spend hours a day jumping off the bridge into the water below, climbing out of the river and back up to do it all over again. That was where Anna first fell in love with water.

She was always an inquisitive girl, adventurous and with an easygoing attitude that enabled her to make friends easily. She was 13 when she first discovered the ocean, having been deemed too young to go with her (usually older) friends to the beach before then. It was love at first sight when she saw the vast expanse of salt water, and her friends wasted no time teaching her the skills required for a fun day at the beach - namely, surfing. Anna took to it like she'd been born a surfer and was soon carving with the best of them (on what passed for waves on the Atlantic coast.) But more than her love of all imaginable watersports, Anna was fascinated with the ocean. She began studying everything she could about the marine world in her spare time.

She graduated in 2000 at the top of her class with grades good enough to land herself a scholarship at the University of Miami and nearly shot through the roof with excitement when she received her acceptance letter. It was a tearful goodbye, leaving her parents behind in Woodbine, but Anna hied herself down to Miami to study marine biology. One of the first things she did there was take on a bunch of odd jobs to save enough for her SCUBA certification, and more often than not she was found out on dives with friends when not doing homework. She also got a job as a tank cleaner at the aquarium, where she also participated in the shark-feeding show and other aquarium demonstrations requiring a diver. She received her bachelor's in marine biology in 2003 and became a certified scuba instructor, working part-time at the aquarium and part-time as a dive instructor through an aquarium-sponsored class. Always one to try new things, she toyed around with the idea of joining a band with some friends and picked up a bass, and while she got to be recreationally proficient at it, she knew it wasn't her true passion and kept it as a hobby only.

She enrolled back in UM's marine biology master's program, planning to eventually get her doctorate, and graduated with the degree in 2005. That was when the Key West Aquarium offered her a job as an aquarist, responsible for all aspects of care in the dolphin and shark habitats. She jumped at the opportunity and moved down to Key West to take the position, which also included dive lessons sponsored by the aquarium as well as dive tours of the surrounding waters and reefs. Anna settled in like she'd been born there, finding the laid-back lifestyle of the permanent residents to be perfectly to her liking, unlike the faster, more image-conscious pace of Miami proper. Eventually, however, Anna realized she'd never get her doctorate making what she was, at least not without putting herself years in debt, and started looking around for a way to supplement her income. The answer finally came in the form of a cruise job - she could teach diving onboard, which was apparently a popular pasttime for guests who wanted to be able to dive when the ship made its stops at various Caribbean ports - and save up as much of her (higher) salary as possible to put towards school. (And if Anna was honest with herself, which she always is, the opportunity to be able to travel to Bermuda free of charge - and get paid for it on top of that - and see the sights herself was too much to pass up.) An employment offer came soon after her application, and she found herself putting her things in storage and heading back to Miami to board.
